After a lesson on plagiarism and the importance of citing information (even when you put it into your own words), allow students to practice their skills with this in-class writing exercise. It's important to warn students that you will be calling on them to share their responses. Allow students time to struggle. Stress that there are many ways of having a correct answer. Read some student work as they finish. Make a mental note of some of the better ones and call on those students to share out at the end. Point out to the class the differences in each person's take on the same passage. Point out that the period goes after the closing parentheses.
Connect with a librarian. We can facilitate this activity for you or just loan you the color pencils!
After receiving an MLA lesson and practice activities, a good way to see how the entire class have grasped concepts is with a short Kahoot quiz game. Requires use of a computer lab or students to use their phones.
