Florida's State College System Creation
Florida goal for community colleges was to serve the post-high school educational needs of local communities by providing education in three major areas:
- Adult continuing education,
- Occupational education, and
- General and academic education parallel to that of the first and second years of the State University System.
Participating in the Inauguration of Leroy C. Floyd, Sr., center, were his family, including his wife, Verdell G. Floyd, and children, Carmen, Ira, and Leroy C. Floyd, Jr., as well as Mr. Charles S. Miley, Chairman of the Lincoln Junior College Advisory Committee, left. Ben L. Bryan, St. Lucie County Superintendent of Schools, second from right, carried out the investiture activities, and Dr. George W. Gore, President of FAMU was the inaugural speaker.
