Scientific Papers, Books and Websites

A lot of scientific knowledge can be found in journal articles. These are usually called "scholarly," "peer-reviewed," or "research" articles. The links below provide access to some journal articles, but you'll need to be a member of a college or university library to gain access to most journal articles because they're very expensive.

PLOS
PLOS (Public Library of Science) is a nonprofit* publisher and advocacy organization with a mission of leading a transformation in scientific and medical research communication. Every article published is open-access – freely available online for anyone to use – which benefits everyone, from researchers, educators, and patient advocates to funders, policymakers, and the public.
arXiv
Started in August 1991, arXiv.org (formerly xxx.lanl.gov) is a highly-automated electronic archive and distribution server for research articles. Covered areas include physics, mathematics, computer science, nonlinear sciences, quantitative biology and statistics. arXiv is maintained and operated by the Cornell University Library.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. However, much of the content found on Google Scholar will necessitate help from a library to obtain "full-text."
